The novel started out well but sucked at the end. It likes to blame the victims if they are seen as weak. The orchard is only relevant at the beginning of the novel and disappears completely, no mention at all, by 2/3 of the way thru. There's multiple characters and story lines that could have been removed completely as they added nothing to the overall story or character development.
