Africans Heading North
In the late seventeenth century, the rare African tribe, the Mahi, was destroyed by s*ave raids. Two young Mahi hunters, Demba and Kanga, recognized for their unique abilities, were taken to the Netherlands and subsequently sold to the Kapitan, who brought them to Japan.
In Edo, they caught the interest of Mito Mitsukuni, who arranged for them to travel to Mito.
However, Mitsukuni had a specific reason for his interest in them. He intended to send them to Ezo (Hokkaido) aboard the giant ship “Kaifumaru,” built by the Mito domain.
“Meet the elder of the Ishikari Ainu, Hawukase,” was the secret mission given to the two.
Kaifumaru set sail northward. Deep in Ishikari, the two were captured by the Ainu on charges they had no knowledge of.
The ones who saved them were two girls, Irika and Emariya, known as the “outcasts” of their village.
